What is Swelling & Edema?
Swelling & Edema is a general response of the body to injury or inflammation. Edema is a medical term for swelling that affects a small area of the body or the entire body. It is a condition which is characterized by fluid retention in the body's tissues which results in the swelling. Swelling can also be either an indicator of problems with your lifestyle or an indication of underlying health issue like kidney problem, high blood pressure. Edema may affect the arms, hands, legs, feet, and ankle.
Swelling and Edema Causes and Treatment
When we sit or stay in one position for a long time then we find swelling on our feet. But what causes swelling and edema? Swelling or Edema causes due to potassium deficiency, excess intake of salt in the diet, gaining weight, sports or accidental injuries, high blood pressure, staying in the same posture for a long time. Medications, chemotherapy, contraceptive pills, skin disease or allergies, tight clothes, wrong size shoes and lack of exercise are other causes of Swelling & Edema.
