Sexually Transmitted Diseases - Overview
Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by infections that are passed from one person to another through sexual contact. There are many kinds of sexually transmitted diseases and infections they are Genital herpes, HIV/AIDS, Gonorrhea, HPV, Syphilis, Trichomonas’s, etc. Most of the STDs affect both men and women, but in many cases this health problem can be more severe in women. If a pregnant woman has an STD, it can cause serious health problems for baby.
Causes of Sexually Transmitted Diseases
The germs that cause STDs hide in blood, semen, vaginal secretions and sometimes in saliva. Sexually transmitted infections can be caused by Bacteria (gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia), Parasites (trichomoniasis), Viruses (HPV, genital herpes, HIV). Sexual activity plays an important role in spreading many other infectious agents, although it is possible to be infected without any sexual contact like hepatitis A, B and C and etc.
