Diarrhoea - Overview
Diarrhea is disease in which frequency of bowel movement increases or decrease in the form of stool (looseness of stool). Having at least 3 loose motions in 24 hours in known as diarrhea in modern science. It is a very common problem affecting all age group of people at one time or another. It normally lasts for 2 to 3 days; some people get it more frequently as a part of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or other conditions.
Causes of Diarrhea
Diarrhea is commonly caused by infections of viruses, bacteria and parasites in digestive system. These microbes generally enter in the digestive system through infected food, milk, water, flesh or other eatables. Diseases like cholera, typhoid, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome and intestinal allergies also cause diarrhea. Alcohol abuse, allergies to certain foods, diabetes, Eating foods that upset the digestive system, laxative abuse, medications, overactive thyroid, radiation therapy, trouble absorbing certain nutrients are other causes of Diarrhea.
