Hypothyroidism - Overview
Hypothyroidism is a common disorder in which thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone which is required by the body. It is also known as underactive thyroid disease. There are many other disorders that result in hypothyroidism, like autoimmune disorders, thyroid removal, prescription medications, pituitary disease, and iodine deficiency.
Causes of Hypothyroidism
The main cause of Hypothyroidism is the deficiency of Iodine. In many cases, this disease is caused by pituitary or hypothalamic disease and side effects of certain medications. It also causes due to autoimmune disease, hyperthyroidism treatment, radiation therapy, surgery of thyroid, pituitary disorder, pregnancy and congenital disease.
